Alps

The mountain range of the Alps in Central Europe is the main destination every year for thousands of holiday makers looking to enjoy some winter sports such as skiing and snowboarding.
The Alps, one of the best regions in the world for these activities, are shared by France, Switzerland, Italy and Austria as well as Slovenia, Germany, Monaco and Liechtenstein. Nearly all of these countries have ski resorts where you can enjoy your favourite sport.

More than 1200 kilometres across the south of France, Central Europe, Northern Italy and Switzerland…the mountain range of the Alps covers more than 200,000 kilometres, and the population of the zone is estimated at around 20 million people.

The Alps are the most important mountains in the world when it comes to winter sports. This mountain range has many peaks at more than 4,000 metres, and is served by dozens of ski stations in several different countries. The highest peak of the Alps is Mont Blanc in France, which stands 4,810 metres above sea level. Other peaks such as Cervino and Monte Rosa are also above 4000 metres and are well worth admiring.

Geographically, the Alpes can be divided into three zones; the Western zone, where we find regions such as the Valais or Pennine alps, and the classic peak Mont Blanc, shared by Switzerland, France and Italy; the Central Zone which includes areas such as the Grisons and Monte Rosa, and is also shared Switzerland, France and Italy; and lastly the Eastern Alps, where Italy and Austria share the Dolomites and the Tirol.

Sestriere in Italy, Zermatt in Switzerland, Courchevel and Alpe D'Huez in France…these are some of the best ski stations to be found in the Alps, ski stations which are supported by the great infrastructures of the surrounding localities- tourism services, hotels, apartments, rural houses… as well restaurants, bars, leisure outlets, shops…everything you need to enjoy a holiday in the Alps.
